David Sless contributed his reflections as part of the Icograda Design Education Manifesto 2011 update. David argues that the transition from graphic design to visual communication involves a radical, painful and expensive change to the education curriculum.
In 2004, after several gatherings of some of the directors of academic design programs, it became evident that an organised body that represented and promoted the Design in Colombia as an academic discipline was needed. On 18 July 2004, 29 directors of legally established design programs signed the constitution of the “Asociación Colombiana Red Académica de Diseño / RAD” (Colombian Academic Design Network). Since then, the Colombian academic network has been working to represent and promote design as an academic discipline, both in local and international realms.
The IEN brings together the worldwide community of design education institutions.
