UCDA Campus Violence Poster Project

The shootings on the American campuses of Northern Illinois University and Louisiana Technical College early 2008, and the tragedy at Virginia Tech University in April of 2007, brought a shocking reminder of how an ordinary day can suddenly turn into a tragic event. However, these events and the responses to them illuminate the generous human impulse to want to help those who have suffered loss.

In response to these tragedies, UCDA (University & College Designers Association) orchestrated a poster project. Members, students, and designers were asked to create posters that reflected some aspect of campus violence - the shock of the event itself, the heroism of the survivors or the importance of crisis preparedness.

UCDA received more than 150 posters, from 21 states and 19 countries. The posters were placed on display in the summer or 2008 at Northern Illinois University and are available for viewing online.

Each poster will also be available through an online auction later in the summer of 2008. Proceeds from the auction will be directed to the Northern Illinois University February 14 Scholarship Fund.
