2012 Adobe® Design Achievement Awards - Period I deadline 27 January

Montréal (Canada) - The deadline for entries to period 1 of the 12 annual Adobe® Design Achievement Awards (ADAAA) is 27 January. The competition recognises the best student designers and faculty innovators in three areas: Interactive Media, Video and Motion and Traditional Media. There are 13 student and 3 faculty judging categories. Submit your entries soon!

Montréal (Canada) - Icograda continues its longstanding endorsement of the international package design competition Young Package 2012. Model Obaly and CZECHDESIGN.CZ have announced the 17 annual international competition aimed at young designers from all around the world. The deadline for online registration is 15 March 2012.

2012 Sir Misha Black Medal and Award winners announced

London (United Kingdom) - The 2012 Sir Misha Black Medal and Award will be conferred during a public ceremony to be held at the Royal College of Art on 8 March 2012. Professor Ezio Manzini of Italy, who has been working for more than two decades in the field of design for sustainability, will be awarded the 2012 Sir Misha Black Medal for Distinguished Services to Design Education.

Seoul Design Foundation appoints Ahn Sang Soo as Chairman of the Board

Seoul (South Korea) - Seoul Metropolitan Government appointed Prof. Ahn Sang Soo as the Chairman of the Board of Seoul Design Foundation. Among other projects during his three-year tenure, Ahn will preside over the opening of Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), a cultural and heritage centre in support of the design industry.

23 International Poster and Graphic Design Festival of Chaumont expands beyond the poster

Chaumont (France) - For 23 years, the Chaumont Festival has supported the poster genre and its developments by holding an international poster competition. The competition has been endorsed by Icograda since 1990. In 2012, the competition is now reaching beyond posters so that the festival can broaden its scope to the full range of related media that make up contemporary graphic design.

2012 Chaumont student competition 'Graphic design in public space: an active form'

Chaumont (France) - The 2012 Chaumont student competition 'Graphic design in public space: an active form' is open for submissions until 12 March 2012. Jocelyn Cottencin, chair of the judging panel, invites students to explore graphic design's modes of action, and ability to act, through the forms it mobilises; and its ability to mediate and disseminate messages, signs, symbols and images in public space.

Entries can be in one of three media: poster, book or screen. The selected projects will be presented in context: posters in the streets of Chaumont; books in Les Silos media library; and screen proposals (site or motion) on the Festival website. The deadline for submissions is 12 March 2012.

open :output launches young designer job board with code of honour

Amsterdam (Netherlands) - open :output, a project of the :output Foundation, has launched a job board for junior designers and internships. The core idea is to establish fair working conditions for young designers - as set out in the ':output code of honour' - and give design studios access to the open :output community of young talents in design and architecture. The beta version is online now and covers at the moment mainly Germany (to be extended in a later stage).
