2005 - COPENHAGEN (DENMARK)

Oslo, Helsinki, Gothenburg, Copenhagen
22-28 September 2005

In September 2005, designers from all over the world traveled to the Nordic countries to take part in the Era 05 World Design Congress.

The Era 05: World Design Congress was conceived with the ideal that design as a creative force can help address the challenges we face and help us to cope with a rapidly changing and increasingly complex environment. This event was geared towards the membership of major international organisations within communications design, industrial design and interior design and architecture. The event attracted creative minds and decision-makers from the design community as well as certain external key interests, including business managers, politicians and social scientists.

The Era 05: World Design Congress explored the challenges that face design and designers in the new era, where personal and organizational behavior and ambitions change rapidly. The event was a forum for debate on the commercial and social impact that design and designers have within a cross-disciplinary framework. The focus was on providing inspiration for action rather than concrete solutions. The congress was an early step in a long-term process of change.

900 delegates from around the world took part in the congress; industrialists, academia and politicians in addition to members of the international design community. The congress started in Oslo, Helsinki and Gothenburg and continued in Copenhagen, where it came to a close.

The final program in Copenhagen consisted of 126 speakers and moderators from 27 countries who made 148 presentations over the course of three and a half days. Events included:
