ICOGRADA DESIGN WEEK IN SEATTLE

Icograda Design Week in Seattle was an international forum for discussion about the role of design in the face of incredible change in the world. It addressed how designers can contribute to a healthy world economy while being mindful of the cultural, environmental and political impact of design.



Key events included:

9-11 July - Icograda Executive Board Meeting
The Icograda Executive Board met at the beginning of the week. Representatives from Icograda member associations were invited to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the design profession.

9-12 July - International Student Workshop
Design students joined together in a small classroom environment led by leading design educators and practitioners. The workshop subject matter was based on the UN Millennium Development Goals and the workshop results were showcased during the Over the Fence Seminar. Marisol Sanjines, a communications advisor with the UN's Human Development Programme, introduceed the student workshop theme and provided perspective on the UN's Millennium Development Goals.

12 July - Icograda Design Media Network Press Conference
This was press conference for Icograda, AIGA and their sponsors to announce upcoming initiatives, future events and developments influencing the state of graphic design.

12 July - Icograd Regional Meeting
This invitation-only meeting began the week, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with colleagues prior to the general public events and contribute to the discussion on the state of graphic design in America.

13 July - Over the Fence Seminar
This one-day event showcased the influences shaping design today. It included work from the student workshop and profile emerging designers from Central America, the United States and Canada.

14-15 July - International conference
This was the core event of Design Week. It provided delegates with the opportunity to learn from renowned international speakers and participate in a global design conversation. More than a dozen speakers presented their insights over two days. The special guest for this event was Sara Little Turnbull, the Director of the Process of Change, Innovation, and Design Laboratory at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
