BIO.21 EXHIBITION
On 2 October 2008 the 21st Biennial of Industrial Design will open at the Architecture Museum of Ljubljana.
This is a major comparative international exhibition of industrial design, visual communications, and design concepts. The exhibition will be on display to 2 November 2008, in exhibition halls at Fužine Castle that measure approximately 1,000 m². The products presented at the BIO exhibition was carefully selected and critically evaluated by an independent international selection committee. BIO 21 will include works from 18 countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, the UK, and the US. With this twenty-first exhibition and its international selection committee, BIO will shape a more unified display and sketch out new guidelines that offer a venue for international assessment to industrial designers from Slovenia and abroad.
At the event’s opening ceremony on 2 October 2008, an international jury comprised of Iva Babaja (Croatia), Vivian Cheng Wai Kwan (Hong Kong), Paulo Maldonado (Portugal), Victor Margolin (USA), and Johan Valcke (Belgium) will award the prizes.
Designers, commissioners, producers, mentors and students are welcome to apply their most recent works.
About BIO
BIO, now in its forty-fourth year, is one of the few major international exhibitions to present, every two years, the best products and prototypes from the fields of industrial design, visual communications and design concepts from Slovenia and abroad.
The BIO Secretariat, which organises the biennial, issues an international invitation to participate in the exhibition; and the selection committee, which is named anew by the secretariat each year, selects the works that are to be displayed at individual exhibitions. The selection process for BIO applicants ensures high quality and a large number of exhibited and awarded works. After a strict inspection of all entered works by the independent international committee in Ljubljana, an international jury reviews all of the works selected and awards the highest recognitions in design among all the works exhibited: BIO Gold Medals, BIO Quality Concepts Awards, and BIO Honorable Mentions.
