2009 SEGD DESIGN AWARDS CEREMONY

The Society for Environmental Graphic Design's annual Design Awards Program recognises the best in environmental graphic design.

Call for entries now closed

Winners will be announced on Saturday 30 May at the SEGD 2009 Design Awards Presentation and Luncheon, part of the 2009 SEGD Annual Conference + Expo, 27-30 May 2009 in San Diego.



Eligibility

The call for entries is open to environmental graphic designers, industrial designers, graphic artists, architects, landscape architects, exhibit designers, interior designers, fabricators, clients and students.

Categories

Eligible projects should demonstrate the use of graphic design elements in built environments, such as:
  • Dynamic Environments
  • Office/Workplace
  • Leisure/Entertainment
  • Educational/Institutional
  • Transportation
  • Retail/Commercial
  • Residential
  • Urban/Cityscape
  • Exhibition Design/Museum
  • Trade Shows/Events/Temporary
  • Master Plans/Planning/Research
  • Miscellaneous
  • Student Projects

Requirements

Submissions must comply with the following requirements:
  • Projects entered must have been completed between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2008.
  • This program is open to both members and non-members of SEGD.
  • Projects entered must demonstrate the use of graphic design elements (ie- typography, symbols, pictograms, diagrams, color-coding, etc.) in the design solution and must focus on the communication of information, identity, or image in the designed environment.
  • Projects entered in previous years may be entered again if they did not win an award.
  • There is no limit on the number of projects that can be entered by an individual or firm.
  • Jurors and their firms are not eligible to enter.
  • Student work is defined as work done in 2007 or 2008 by full-time students enrolled in a recognised design program.

Special recognition

Special recognition may be given to projects developed under low budgets.
Check the box on the Project Entry Form if applying for this recognition and use the Project Description to clearly explain the financial constraints of the project.

2009 Jury

Peter Dixon – Prophet (Chair)
Peter Dixon is senior partner and creative director of  Prophet, bringing clients a unique blend of perspectives as architect and brand specialist.

Lars Uwe Bleher - Atelier Markgraph 
Lars Uwe Bleher, architect, scenographer, and exhibition designer, is a managing director of the Frankfurt- based Atelier Markgraph

Stephen Burks - Readymade Projects 
Stephen Burks and his New York studio, Readymade Projects, have been responsible for creative direction on projects ranging from retail interiors and events to packaging, consumer products, lighting, furniture, and home accessories.

Tim Love - Northeastern University School of Architecture
Tim Love is a tenured associate professor at the Northeastern University School
of Architecture, where he teaches housing, urban design, and architectural theory.

Linda Raker - Kaiser Permanente
Linda Raker is senior project manager for Kaiser Permanente's national facilities
services department, which is responsible for setting the design standards for their facilities across the U.S.

Stephanie Reyer - National Constitution Center
Stephanie Reyer is director of exhibitions at the National Constitution Center in
Philadelphia. She oversees all aspects of the center's exhibition program, including the conceptualisation, development, and evaluation of original changing exhibitions.

Kathy Wesselman - wpa, inc.
Kathy Wesselman is a principal of wpa, inc., an interdisciplinary design firm
specialising in graphic design and architecture, located in Seattle. In 1994, she
merged her graphic design firm with Anthony Pellecchia Architecture Studio to form wpa, inc.

Winners

Winning projects will be featured in segdDESIGN magazine, the color publication of SEGD, and on www.segd.org.

Winners must attend the awards ceremony at the 2009 SEGD Annual Conference + Expo, 27-30 May 2009 in San Diego.

Submission

For each project, submit the following materials, all in one package:
  • Signed project entry form
  • Project description
  • Visual materials
  • Payment

Deadline

Entries must be received at SEGD no later than 5:00 p.m. EST, on 30 January 2009. Late entries must be received no later than 5:00 p.m EST, on 13 February 2009 and will incur a late fee of $40 per project. No entries will be accepted after 13 February 2009.
