WORLD GRAPHICS DAY 2009
Montreal (Canada) - 27 April, Icograda's anniversary, was designated World Graphics Day in 1995. It is an opportunity to recognise communication design and its role in the world. Celebrations large and small have marked the occasion in ways as diverse as the community that Icograda represents.
What drives Icograda is a shared passion that design can be a medium for progressive change. We call it 'leading creatively'. To mark World Graphics Day 2009, we want to know how you use design to effect change in the world around you. It can be on any scale - local, regional, national or international.
Tell us about how you translate 'leading creatively' into action — about the kind of change design can facilitate.

This year, you can also share your activities through our event on Facebook, With more than 2000 fans, it is a growing community of Icograda supporters that are using the platform to share, exchange and network.

Hi: I´m a teacher in graphic design at Grafisk UtbildningsCenter in Uppsala, sweden. We´re planing to celebrate the world graphic day 09 by printing a set of postcards done by our students. We´re going to have a stand in the center of our city with an student exhibition and wi´ll inform the public about our roll as designers. i host a tibettan philosophical learning group in my home as well as designing the logo and publications of the group as a donation to promote equanimity, awareness and happiness. the surrounding in my environment and my design enhances the way people that encounter the publications and the books i design to be aware of design more.

En la conmemoración del día del diseñador los estudiantes de diseño grafico de la Universidad del Cauca, Colombia, e integrantes del grupo de investigación AXON – TISO diseño, plantean y realizan una Intervención urbana con la motivación de abrir espacios para la exploración gráfica alternativa apartándose de las concepciones nulas o acostumbrados en torno a lo que significa el diseño, aprovechando la oportunidad de mostrar una producción que permita invitar a todos los actores sociales, en una puesta en escena, a la aceptación de nuevos discursos y del uso de los espacios de la ciudad, lo que ayudara a generar nuevas lecturas y dinámicas en torno a la misma. De esta manera cabe decir que la labor del diseñador va más allá de demostrar sus destrezas con el lápiz y el ratón, incluye la promoción de movimientos culturales alternativos.
