How can designers help Haiti?

The catastrophic events over the past two weeks in Haiti have shocked and saddened the world. However, the devastation has brought together an enormous amount of support from around the globe, including the design community.

Through the Secretariat, we have received updates on how our Members and networks are developing initiatives to raise funds and give support to our Haitian neighbours. We encourage you to share your initiatives so that designers can connect and coordinate efforts.

How can designers help Haiti?

AIGA encourages designers to support Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF and Partners in Health because they are productive, effective and minimise their administrative expenses.

Haiti Earthquake Rebuilding

Architecture for Humanity will soon start exploring specific opportunities for rebuilding projects in cooperation with their partners on the ground. In the meantime, they have launched a fundraising appeal to support this long term reconstruction effort.

gráffica.info, an information portal dedicated exclusively to the design world, is performing an act of solidarity for those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. All funds donated to this campaign will be given to the Red Cross.

Our IDA partner, Icsid, has opened a call to designers from all disciplines to unite in an open dialogue with international relief organisations to assess potential design-effective rehabilitation projects.

We're donating money saved by car-pooling (otherwise spent on fuel to commute back and forth to the city) directly to the International Red Cross for use in Haiti. "Beyond petroleum" indeed...

Methodologie did a rapid fundraising effort with our 28 staff and long-term contractors to compile and match any donations. We raised $2100 within 24 hours. The money was immediately donated to Doctors without Borders and Partners in Health.

The 4th year class in the Graphic Design for Marketing program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is selling hand crafted buttons in hopes of raising funds to donate through the Red Cross.
