Tell us: How do you value design?

World Graphics Day, celebrated annually since 1995, is an occasion for designers to reflect and hope that Icograda's global network can contribute to greater understanding between people and help build bridges where divides and inequities exist.


How do you value design?

In keeping with the theme for Design Currency: Icograda Design Week in Vancouver 2010, opening on World Graphics Day this year, you are invited to complete the sentence: "I value design because..." This can be done through social media as well as in your own original way.

Ways to participate:
  1. Stick to the point. Use 140 characters on twitter.com with the hash tag #wgd2010
  2. Show us how you see it. Post images on flickr.com that represent design's value and add them to the group World Graphics Day
  3. Speak your mind. Post video on youtube.com with the tag 'World Graphics Day'
  4. Tell all your Friends. Change your status on facebook.com

I value good design, because it reflects the concern by designers for the rest of the world. The point is that everything is designed — some things badly, some things blandly and some things very well. People should be made aware that bad design does not have to exist, and choosing good design makes the world a better place for themselves and everyone else.

I value design because is a realistic alternative to the economic crisis. And, while I am at it, as a solution to it. This is not an empty proposition. Industrial design, or to put it better, the application of design to industry have had a stimulating effect in the past.
