About the design
"PIAF" is a silk screened poster for the small Finnish theatre company Mikkelin Teatteri in Mikkeli, Kari's home town. The poster received several distinctive awards, including the Best Finnish Cultural Poster in 1986, and the Icograda Award of Chaumont, 1990.

About the designer
Kari Piippo was born in 1945 in Finland, and in 1967 graduated from the graphic design department of the School of Industrial Arts in Helsinki. Since that time he has specialized in illustration and poster design, founding his own graphic design studio in 1987. Piippo has taught graphic design at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki from 1989 to 1997. He has held poster workshops around the world, and has lectured in Mexico City, Moscow, Osaka, Istanbul, Seoul, Stockholm, Beijing, Shanghai and Quito. Piippo has participated in many international poster exhibitions, has held numerous personal exhibitions, has won many national and international awards, and has judged many international competitions. His work has also been widely published. Piippo served as the President of the Helsinki Poster Biennial from 1994 to 1998, and he is a member of AGI, ADC (NY) and Grafia.
