About the design
A Museum for Children
The Museo in Erba's goal? To make great works of art accessible to all ages - especially to children. I have worked for this museum ever since its doors opened. Not only did I create the logo, I continue to develop the posters for the exhibitions. In each poster, I try to create an image that respresents (or is an allegory of) each highlighted artist. At the same time, I want to be sure to develop something that appeals to children. The fabulous director of the museum never gives her own feedback on a poster. She always lets a group of children decide ! It certainly is a pleasure to create work that touches children in different parts of the world (in this case in the Italian region of Switzerland).
Citizens of Art
I put in place a sort of poster system based on the creation of simple and symbolic images in order to allow children to find their own meaning in the art they were to look at. Little Stories in Art, Citizens of the World, The Magic of Magritte, On a Trip with Gauguin, Leonardo s Coloring Box, and Lautrec and the Moulin Rouge are just some of the playful and educational exhibtions for which I take pride and pleasure in creating the posters and various promotional images.
About the designer
Yann Legendre, born in France in 1972, is a graphic designer and member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). After studying at the Institute of Visual Arts, he moved to Paris to become an independent graphic designer. Yann has developed a multiform visual approach to graphic design that he refers to as Design Life, a concept based on visual eclecticism and ethnographic design. He is laureate of several national and international competitions for projects ranging from visual identity creation to posters to books for public and private institutions, publications, and humanitarian associations. His work has also appeared in a variety of design reviews, most recently the French publication, Etapes graphiques. In 2000, Yann founded a publication entitled Ragoo, a review encompassing a different graphic and literary experiences from its contributing writers. Between 2001 and 2004, Yann traveled across the United States and created several travel journals through his sketchbooks. Yann s journeys took him to New York, California, the Arizona desert, and finally, Chicago where he moved in 2005. At that time, Yann gave workshops on graphic design at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2006, Yann received the prestigious AIGA award for the best 50 Books / 50 Covers of the year. Also in that year, Yann joined Tanagram Partners in Chicago, and he continues to work for European cultural institutions. Yann s work has been exhibited all over the world including the US, France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, and China.
