Our department was established in August, 2000, and draws inspiration from the 'Design Group' of the Department of Fine Arts and Crafts in the institution's 'Academy of Arts' era and the Design Group of the Department of Crafts and Design in the institution's 'College of Arts' era. Our department achieved its goal of combining the undergraduate department and the graduate program in 2005, and has gradually become an important cradle for Taiwan's visual design education.

The diverse background of our faculty also ensures that the department focus encompasses a wide variety of research interests and educational approaches. Faculty members are graduates of Taiwan universities such as Taiwan Normal University, Yulin University of Technology, Japanese universities such as Chiba University, Tsukuba University, and Tokyo University of the Arts, and American universities such as Fontbonne and Pennsylvania State.
