Hon Bing-wah has become involved in design after receiving his academic qualification in design in 1972 at the Extramural of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In the past years,he received the Gold Award of the Hong Kong Designers Association. Other awards included Creativity Gold Medal Award, USA, and China CIS Yearbook Gold Award. His poster works were selected at the Warsaw Poster Biennial, Lahti Poster Biennale, Poster Show in Toyama, Japan, and Korea International Poster Biennale.

Hon has been involved in design education since 1980. He was one of the co-founders of Hong Kong Chingying Institute of Visual Arts,and the principal from 1984 to 1994. He is also the visiting professor of the University of Shanghai. Besides, he was invited to join the judging panel for Regional Flag and Emblem of hksar and involved in its final design. Also, he was the jury for China Star 2002, Design Biennale in Macau,and Taiwan Design Biennale. Hon was also as an adviser and participated in the design of promotional materials for Shanghai's bidding of World Expo 2010. He was the Chairman of Hong Kong Designers Association from 1998 to 2000 and is now an adviser.

Hon Bing-Wah iserved on the 2003-2005 Icograda board in the position of Vice President.
