BICD is a design promotion institute engaging in implementing special plans of design promotion and propelling the development of design innovation industry.  Its main missions include:

• To research on policies and plans of design industry
• To organize the application and demonstration of design projects
• To release dynamic information of design industry
• To develop international design communication and cooperation
• To organize design forums, exhibitions and meetings
• To  select China Red Star Design Award
• To conduct design education programs

BIDC's main accomplishments include:

• BIDC created China Red Star Design Award, which is the only national design award that aims to encourage the independent innovation of Chinese manufacturers, create Chinese enterprises' branding images and enhance the international competitiveness of Chinese products.
  
• BIDC built Beijing DRC Industrial Innovation Base (DRC), which is the first industrial design base in China.  DRC contains a ocmmon technological platform of design and a professional incubator of design firms.
• BIDC has successfully finished some design education programs for Chinese undergraduate students majoring in design, which benefit students and design firms a great deal.
