SDC is a non-profit, state-funded institution, active in the area of culture of SR since 1991. From the beginning of its existence the main aim of SDC has been to initiate, to co-create and to guarantee the state policy focused on the design promotion in SR. Therefore the main activities of SDC are aimed at permanent education in the field of culture and industry, as well as gathering, preserving and spreading of information concerning the design through all accessible means.

SDC is involved in the design promotion, in publishing and exhibiting activities, in organizing design competitions, in expert consulting and in creating specialized directories. SDC issues DE SIGN UM, the only professional review on design in SR.

SDC cooperates with many design centers abroad and also with international associations of graphic and industrial designers (ICSID, ICOGRADA, IFI) and also develops long-term work contacts with many specialized workplaces in SR, including academies of fine arts and design.

The institution provides information on active designers in SR in the field of industrial and graphic design. SDC has a database of companies in SR focused on the development of their own products and on the development of new production programs.

SDC provides services of a specialized library for professional public.
