Taipei (Taiwan – Chinese Taipei) – Icograda announced the recipients of its highest honours – the President's Award, the Education Award and the 2011 Icograda Achievement Awards. Russell Kennedy honoured Mervyn Kurlansky (Denmark) with the President's award. Apex Pang Soong Lin (Taiwan – Chinese Taipei) accepted the Icograda Education award. Achievement Awards were presented to Lin Horng-Jer, Stony Cherng, Tzung-Kuei Yang, Han-Pin Chen, Taddy Ho and Tony Chang. The announcements were made on 24 October, the opening day of the inaugural IDA Congress.

Taipei (Taiwan - Chinese Taipei) - Adobe, in collaboration with Icograda, announced the winners of the 11 annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA) at an awards ceremony held on 23 October in Taipei, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei). The awards honour the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from higher education institutions worldwide who have created individual or group projects with Adobe software.

Tokyo (Japan) - The Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA) will hold the largest creative charity project in Japan - 'Handkerchiefs for Tohoku Children' - presenting gifts of handkerchiefs to children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The handkerchief designs in the travelling exhibition, created by JAGDA members from all over Japan, will also be on sale. For each purchased handkerchief, one with the same design will be presented to a child in the affected area, in the hopes of bringing some joy.

Basel (Switzerland) - The Pan European Brand Design Association (PDA) is celebrating 20 years with their 'Show your muscles in Brussels' conference on 28 October at the Living Tomorrow exhibit and meeting space. The one-day conference, moderated by Jan Oldenburger (Netherlands), includes keynote presentations, discussions on the future of the organisation and of branding in Europe, a design award ceremony, and a tour of the futuristic Living Tomorrow complex.

Hong Kong SAR - The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has recently received a donation of HK$249 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club in support of the Innovation Tower, the future home of the University's renowned School of Design (SD) and the Design Institute for Social Innovation (DISI).

Montreal (Canada) - At the recent board meeting in Montreal (Canada), the Icograda Executive Board approved the applications of ten new member organisations in the following categories: three professional, five educational, one promotional and one corporate.

Taipei (Taiwan - Chinese Taipei) - The 27 pieces curated by David Lancashire from the Mother Tongue gallery will be on display at Originality 100, International Conference on Visual Communication Design, 2011 from 17-30 October. The international design conference addresses original design, innovation, indigenous cultures, etc. in the field of visual communication design.
